! Please ensure you have registered to attend the Workshop using the online booking form, and have received confirmation before arriving at CERN. Visas must be valid for Switzerland and, if you are flying via Paris, for France.

Between 8:00 and 18:00 go to the CERN General Reception in Building 33 and register as a visitor.

Between 18:00 and 8:00 (if you have booked a room at the Hostel) go to Gate B, next to the bus terminus and register with the security officers as a visitor.

Ask for a plan of the site and directions for the hostel.

In Geneva buses run from 6:00 to midnight, outside these hours you will need to take a taxi (see below for further transport details).

Services at CERN

A range of services are available on site including a Post Office, public telephones, a newsagent and small shop, a bank and cash dispensing machines, a laundry and a souvenir shop.

News and events, incuding restaurant menus are featured in the weekly CERN Bulletin.

Email and Portables at CERN

During your stay in Geneva, you can access your email on the computers in the Central Library at CERN. Information on this and the temporary username and password will be announced at the start of the Workshop.

The temporary username and password will allow participants to use the Library's 14 X-terminals, which are accessible 24 hours a day.

There are several options for reading your email. From the CERN Library you can use any available protocol for accessing your own mailbox, e.g. http, Telnet, SSH, FTP, etc.

In order to connect a laptop to the network at CERN you should register as a visitor in advance (when you are asked for a contact person at CERN you can enter the details of: Corrado Pettenati, Group SI, Division ETT):

Wireless network is available in some areas:

http://network.cern.ch/sc/fcgi/sc.fcgi?Action=GetFile&file=wireless.html

Note that CERN sockets are three pin but will accept standard European two pin plugs, however, the sockets are recessed (hexaganol) so some adaptors may not be suitable. See a picture of a European to Swiss adaptor. A small number of European-Swiss adaptors will be availalbe to borrow from Lamia Djerbi.

Workshop Meals

There will be an OAI Workshop official welcome buffet on Thursday 12th February at 19:30 at CERN Restaurant 1. All participants are invited. The cost of this dinner is included in the price of the Workshop.

On Friday night a special part of the CERN Restaurant 1 dining room will be reserved for the OAI Workshop from 19:30 onwards but food must be bought at your own personal expense. We suggest that you bring along something drinkable from your own country to share with other participants at that dinner and to celebrate Valentine's Day together.

The CERN self-service restaurants serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and drinks and snacks during the day. The price of a full meal (main course and dessert and including a drink) will range from 10 to 20 CHF depending on your choice.

Restaurant 1 also serves alcoholic drinks.
